i dont know much about that phone...infact i know nothing...but i know that my w800i plays 3gp files...i downloaded a program called ImToo 3gp Converter...nice and easy 2 use...and converts pretty much ne video file format 4 3gp

i found out how to play mp4 in my w550i, they look far better than 3gp files
you can only play mpeg4 (.mp4) or .3gp. you can convert your video files with ImToo converter, download the free version and change this settings, (i did'n figured out...i got them from another forum and they work just fine ) :
1) set to convert to .mpeg4
2) change the resolution to 176x144
3) change the bit rate to 100
4) change the frame rate to 15
5) change the bit-rate tolerance to 100

then upload the new .mp4videos to your w550i and they play almost perfect.
ImToo converter only lets you convert up to 5 min of video in the free version, and i useit  mostly to play music videos in my w550i (most of them shorter than 5 min) but i also like to play short chapters of celebrity deathmach, of course, longer than 5 min.
I use Inter Video WinDVD creator to split the video in parts of 5 min each one, then i click on "tools", "output to file" and then i save them as .wma files. then i use ImToo converter to convert them to .mp4
they are a lil' bit blurry, but is really good.

And one more thing about w550i: i hate that sometimes when i send a FWD of multimedia msg it gets stucked! and sometimes it also cancel every sound...that is weird but it has happened. the phone dont ring, it only vibrate and when i answer there is no sound either! even if i click in the camera it doesnt makes that click noise! after a soft reset it works fine again!

dude, take your phone to the assistance... it shouldn't turn off by itself or freeze/crash so frequently!!!

I think its just a matter of firmware update, but ask for a change while it's still on warranty...

w600i comes with orange and blue, w550i (mine) comes with orange and white.

i would send my w550i back to replace it if i could but i got it on e bay, so...no exchanges!!! that is the price that you pay to have the w550i before release date in usa

i have a question: when i convert mpg to mp4 the sound goes first and the video has a small delay...do you know what i mean...the image doesnt sync with the noise. but if i convert a wmv to mp4 the problem dissapears...i dont know why.

so, if i want to play a mpg file in my w550i this is what i do:

i start creating a new project in Intervideo WinDVD Creator

then, i import the file to the editor board

but i dont edit it. once i drag it to the editor board, i output it to file (tools menu) and select WMV as the output file

i save it in my computer and then i convert the new wmv file to mp4 with ImToo MPEG Encoder with the next settings (i read them in another forum...no stilling nobody credits !):

VIDEO:
convert to MPEG4
Bit Rate: 192 kbps
Size: 176x144
Frame rate: 11.99fps

AUDIO:

Bit rate: 0kbps
Sample rate: 16000Hz
Channels: stereo (2)

I have tried this and it works better that the settings that i posted before.
if you have questions or doubts, ask. If you want to correct me: Go Ahead! because i am just trying to figure it out!

and enjoy your w550i/w600i just like im enjoying mine.

ah, and one more thing, i finnaly found a way to wear the earphones in the gym while im running. as i told before, the microphone jumps a lot and i use the earphone only @ the gym...so they were useless until i attached them to my shirt in this way:

i just have to make sure that the clip holds the small whire with the help of my shirt, because i i dont use the shirt the cable will run as i run too.

but if u use it this way, it stays in its place...for sure!

I have downloaded several games for my W600i, including Asphalt Urban GT 3D and Extreme Snowboarding 3D.  Each of these came installed on the phone from Cingular, but only as a demo.  However, in the demo mode, I was able to play the games in the horizontal format, and the downloaded versions will not allow me to do that.  What do I have to do to get the horizontal format?  Thanks.

I recently got a w550i and love it. However, I was wondering if someone could answer a couple of things that have been annoying me a bit.

1. When I've uploaded a whole album to the phone and then go to play it through the walkman the songs arn't in order. They're listed alphabetically, which is stupid as I want them to play through as the album should. Does this happen on the w800i or with anyone else? Anyone know how to sort them correctly?

2. Bluetooth seems to be a real problem. It's rare that other phones can detect me even if all my settings suggest they should be able to. If I turn the phone off and on I can be found for a while, and then it just stops working. I've no idea why. Anyone?

Other than that I've been really happy with it.

I have a bad experience using W550 in gym before this. but thanks to your picture, it solve the problem. BTW, when youre running, where do u put ur phone? mine was splat to threadmill during gym session. i dont have any bag fot the phone. If u haf suggestion, please do let me know.

Arghh,

1. The easier way to sort the song in album is by putting number in front of the song title in ID3 tag. the list in walkman does not refer to filename when playing.
2. I've been using W550 for abt 2 months and i dont have any problem with Bluetooth. The SE interface for bluetooth is easy and simple. people can easily find me and sending file through it is such a breeze.

If anyone is interested, I migrated from Blue to Orange, via phone customer service, and got the W600i for $179 - $100 mail in rebate, for a net of $79.  I also picked up a Z520a for $62 - $30 mail in rebate, for a net of $32.  Pretty good prices I think.  Not sure if it is any call in order, or just the migration department, but if you were thinking aobut migrating over, now is a good time to change.  I had a Blue T616 and was ready for a new phone, so this was a good deal for me.

well, when i am running i put it in front of me, where u usually would put a magazine and your water bottle.and when i go to the machines... i wear lycra underwear....so i stick my w550i in there...lol! away from my stuff, of course! dont want it to vibrate near to my things!

i havent had a problem with bluetooth. my roomate has a motorola razr and i share files very often with him...very simple and easy.

now...i have a question (i always have one...right? lol):
my w550i comes with these languages:
     english
     bhs indonesia
     bhs malaysia
     tagalog
     tieng viet
     chinese (i think)

what languages come in the w600i (cingular), is it english and spanish? is there any way i can change my phone to spanish? i speak english...but it will be easier to use it in spanish, i know the w600i that is on sale in mexico (Telcel) comes in spanish.
