Mobileburn reviews The Fabulous W810

Another great review from the lovers of the Sony Ericsson interface —which being the best one available, keeps improving little details in almost every model— and yet another “Highly Recommended” rating. Enjoy these excerpts:

Overall build quality seems to be good, which is what we have come to expect from Sony Ericsson. But the device does seem to creak more when squeezed than the earlier models, and just doesn’t come across as rock solid as the W800 and K750 did. The look also seems to be a bit more plastic-like. Of course it is, indeed, made of plastic, but I just feel that the K750 and W800 made that less obvious. This is probably much a matter of taste, though, so judge for yourself. (…)

The Sony Ericsson W810 exhibits further refinements to its user interface. (…) One of the themes, Orbit, has not only a little fellow that orbits the selected icon and follows you as you navigate, but it changes colors each time you enter the menu. On top of that, the Orbit theme also blips the vibration alert lightly each time you navigate in the main menu, giving you physical as well as visual feedback for your actions. This is great. (…)

I’ve long been espousing the virtues of Sony Ericsson’s user interface here on MobileBurn, and now that the basics have been covered, it is nice to see the company focusing on the fine little details that really make a UI sing. The W810’s user interface is, simply put, the best available on the market today. (…)

The maximum number of contact records has been boosted to 1000 from the 500 limit imposed on the K750 and W800, which is a welcomed change. (…)

The Sony Ericsson W810 is simply one fantastic handset. While I found the speakerphone to be weak, and was disappointed by the lack of stereo Bluetooth support, it simply does everything else exquisitely well. (…) The W810 is my new favorite, currently available handset. I give it a “Highly Recommended” rating with no hesitations at all.

Re: The W810i thread WHEN WHEN WHEN WHEN??

Hi everyone. First post!

Three weeks ago I purchased the Sony Ericcson W600i along with a Cingular Wireless 2 year contract.

I REALLY wanted the W810i but it was not an option. The salesman said he thought it might be offered by Cingular by the end of the summer but had no other details.

DOES ANYONE know when and even IF Cingular will be offering the W810i as a phone to be purchased for use on their network??!
ANYONE?!?

This is really frustrating trying to get any information. It's like trying to find out CIA secrets or something!

So..................ANYONE?!?

Thanks in advance!!

Re: The W810i thread - Problems!

Hiya

I have a new W810i, and it's a great little phone, except for two things (and SE tech help couldn't help at all with these - I really want to keep the phone, but would love to deal with the problems myself rather than lost it for weeks while they fiddle with it)

1) The setup wizard starts up every time I turn the phone on - and believe me, I've tried all the possible ways I can think of to stop this (I mean, beyond just replying 'no' when it asks if I want to run the startup wizard next time I turn the phone on ...!)

2) When I'm charging the phone, it starts an alarm noise when it's fully charged and gives me the msg 'Charging Error - Stop Charging!'

Both of these are pretty minor issues, but they're very annoying, and it's a damn shame because otherwise I really like the phone. And I really really hope I haven't missed something in asking these questions - I've scanned the forums for similar issues without success, but apologise in advance if I've f*&%@ed up ...!

Any help gratefully accepted!

 :)

i too bought the w810i. i live in S. Cali, USA.

$70 with two year contract with Cingular.

Old phone: Motorola RAZR V3
New phone: SE w810i

so far my only complaint is that whenever i make a phone call, i'm only able to talk for about 1 ~ 2 min... then it will drop the call. even when i have full reception. i bet that its only a service problem, i plan to take it back for trouble shooting when i have time.

other than that...

it has been an awesome phone so far. the digicam on the phone is soooo much better than my current digicam (nikon 2100, which is also a 2mp). the w810i's digicam has 'IMAGE STABILIZATION' i also use the mp3 player regularly. unlike the stupid RAZR... i don't have to charge the phone EVERY-frickin-DAY!!! even when i use the mp3 player (max volume, through the speakers)

all in all... minus the dropping call thing... its a great phone. then again, i'm new to SE. i use to be a motorola fan, but they totally screwed me with the razr.
