I saw this wedsite said there is a rumor of SE is working on a new smartphone that almost the same as P990 but smaller in size and no wifi and 3G and it call P970, this wedsite is in chinese.

As pointed by Mobile-review some weeks ago, Sony Ericsson may be working on a reduced-size version of the P990 without the Qwerty keypad but same touchscreen, UIQ 3.0 interface and rest of features, and what you see above is a computer generated image of a possible design (perhaps based on the real deal?). UCSE forum member Raymondtly claims it won't have 3G and Wi-Fi, and the word Walkman appears several times in the unreadable article he found the photo in, all of it making sense for a less business, more youth oriented smartphone. I dare to say it might sport a better camera, since a graphic chipset capable of dealing with a 3 megapixel camera is alredy present in the W900. Please SE, call it P200 once and for all!

I would love this phone if it was a smaller P990 without the QWERTY.
But if it comes without 3G ang WiFi, I wouldn't buy it.

I think (as a Symbian fan) that nothing but good can come from a lower end UIQ phone!  It is a more flexible interface than Series 60 and one that - if the Palm market share is a valid indicator - middle-level users prefer.  I think this phone is exactly what is needed to take on the M$ and Palm powered phones.

I love the idea of a smaller P990, however I really don't like the way that the phone looks with the flip. I think it is way too big. I really hope this is just what someone thinks it will look like and in no way a final design. Also I think it would be a shame for it to not have 3G and Wi Fi. So ok I could live without 3G but I would not buy it if it came without WiFi.

Yeah, but this phone isn't for US!  This phone is for people who want a smartphone that they can do more than T9 text with.  This isn't for the full on road warrior/ gadget freak.  This is an opportunity to take UIQ to more users and that benefits power users because it creates a bigger market for UIQ software.  This is a brilliant volume move on the part of SE.  Let's hope they bring it in with a quad band and edge specification and at about $350 and with the support of some major carriers!  Then watch that market share roll in a still profitable segment.  Beautiful, Miles!  Beautiful!

I found another website talking about the P970 on google. Unfortunately, it's in hungarian.

I could get some information from it though, the screen will be 240x320 with 16 million or 262 (million?) colours. It'll probably have a 2Mpix CCC (three C's?) sensor, taking 1600x1200 pictures.

They also mention 3G and WiFi, but I don't know wether they claim it to have that or not.

(NB: I don't understand hungarian, but at least I tried to understand )

As the rumor written that it will be a smartphone that will come without the QWERTY keybroad, wifi and 3G,it will be more suitable for china market.
 
As for the word "walkman" they mentioned is about the rumor new clamshell walkman phone that maybe annouce soon.They hope that SE will also say something about this P970.

Just need to wait and lookout for more infromation on the wedsite.

I dont think that is an official generated image. But I do believe its in development. Anyway, why are the Numbers keys on the inside?? That wouldnt make any sense...

As it turned out to be its not an official render. Its a photoshop done by Deuxani.
So credits go to him for making a nice photojob. His name was on the photo as well, but 163 cut it off and replaced it with theirs.

I can help translate the Chinese article. Here are some highlights.

No Wifi, no 3G, 1.3 Mega Pixel, No QWERTY, "perhaps more suitable for "domestic" (Chinese) market", "SE will probably announce new models next week" (that article was written on 2005-11-08). The word "Walkman" has nothing to do with P970. It is there just showing contrasts.

finally... the p970 is that, what i've been thinking about in the last years. that baby and the memorystick with 4 gb... ;-) we wait for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
