This is obviously the Vodafone version of the K600. I like the styling.

the newspiece:

Sony Ericsson and Vodafone have unveiled the V600, a Vodafone branded K600 with a new cover design that sort of makes it look a bit less exclusive or stylish than the original one, mainly because of the new black plastic front plate and keys that replace the aluminium-looking surfaces of the K600. The specs remain the same: 3G, 1.8″ 176x220 262k color screen, 1.3 megapixel camera, 32mb internal memory with no external memory slot, Radio FM and another VGA camera in the front for videocalling. The big deal about the K600/V600 is that they are currently one of the smallest 3G phones compared to the rest of bulky UMTS devices, they pack a reasonably good series of features, and they’re relatively cheap. How’s this called? High-end GSM-low-end 3G hybrid?

More photos of the V600:

Yesterday I made an early opinion about the new case for the V600, which —from the first photos— looked cheaper than the original K600 design. Sony Ericsson just sent these new shots to me and the show a much more stylish plastic material and especially a very attractive back. The design of the surroundings of the camera, including the K750-style lens cap, are really cool.

The design is awesome, but the functionality - not so much.

Yup, I agree. The design looks really sleek and cool. I think it's the first time the Vodaphone has such a nicely designed phone (the V800/Z800 looked exactly the same, so no count). However, I'm not so sure about what's inside the black, cool box.

Probably a lot of Vodafone branding and crippled applications. The design isn't bad.

Hopefully, this phone would end up like the black T630, where after some time, it goes to other countries where Vodaphone isn't available.

It could happen. The V800 was sold in Switzerland, I think, with no Vodafone branding. At least on the outside.

I have one of these. I was issued one because a colleague persuaded me to switch from a nokia because of the java run time supported by the Sony Erricson. I replaced a Nokia 6310i  ???

The battery life when running bluetooth is poor.

I am of an age where my eyesight is not as good  :'( as it once was and the screen and fonts are thus very small and very hard to read without my glasses.

I hate the fact that the buttons are small and contiguous and the shape also makes it too easy to hit the wrong button. I am not a great fan of the joystick either.

It was a complete and absolute pain transferring my address book. I basically did it by hand. The SE software mandates Microsoft software to manage the data on a PC, outlook for events and tasks and windows address book for the addresses. I don't have Outlook; when using windows I have MS works.

The voice activation is very sensitive. You must use the recommended head sets and so far I find that car noise distorts the voice activation. The car makes more noise at 70, than at 30 or when stopped. Interestingly, the bluetooth headset recommended is a Nokia.

I was advised that the syncML support would allow me to syncronise the phone calander with my works calander and I havn't given up yet.

I have not yet given up on web browsing, or messenger, or mailing the pictures to flickr. The camera is always with me, so that good! I like the camera but my sony cybershot is better. However, the flickr thing may be harder than I expected as I can't find how to attach pictures to a mail, nor how to get flickr to accept MMS.

When I complained about it to a friend, he merely asked me "Does it make phone calls?". Bob, yes it does.

The speaker is a good feature for phone calls but eats the battery. I haven't tried the head phones it comes with and the speaker is poor for playing MP3 files.

The PC file transfer software means that uploading MP3 & wma files and extracting pictures is easy. I also upload my travel itineries to the phone, so that its with me on my business and personal journies.

You can assign individual ringtones for each address book entry.

I have not used the sound recorder, the timezone app; its too far away from the main menu and I can't be bothered to create a shortcut.

I have not used Vodafone's "Live" wml service, but am considering publishing an RSS feed for consumption on my phone.

I also keep a record at http://davelevy.dyndns.info/snipsnap/space/Dave/Sony+V600i
Hope this helps!
