We do have an excuse if you didn’t find news around here for a while, even if there was a lot of spy shooting lately (to which we have something to say about, but later on that) or you sent in news or cool stuff (all will get published); it’s been the holidays, our comeback to California, the yearly server slowdown/upgrade, and the resulting technical problems in the forum, altogether. So while we’re updating the latter, here’s a little trick I found myself the other day and will certainly surprise more than one or two readers out there. Were you, like me, furious about the first so called music phones, W800/K750 and W600, not having dedicated music buttons other than the pretty basic “music button”? Will I make your life happier if I suggest you to press-and-hold the volume buttons from any menu, keypad locked or not, during playback, and you found yourself skipping songs? Oh yes! now go tell everybody, you SE prophet!

And if you already knew, why the heck didn’t you tell us!?
UPDATE: Steve tells us it also works in the V800, so it may also be a feature of the K600, K700 and S700?

Despite the odd big clock and totally non-Sony Ericsson navigation buttons, Kiddy Boy’s interpretation of a possible “white dream” W1000 swiveler and his Photoshop skills earned him more than half your votes… and a W600. It would be the first of a kind of ultra wide display mobile phones, with a 2.8 inch, “GVGA” 240x400 pixel, 16 million color screen. Still positioned under the Walkman brand, it would also offer a 4 megapixel camera and the internal memory wouldn’t be below the gigabyte. Reminds me of that rumored second Ophira/Sakura focused on imaging more than on music. Our personal favourite? It was curiously the least voted, Immanuel’s “codename Helen”, and we loved that authentic “fake” feeling. Congratulations to the winner and the rest of the contestants, we look forward to see more of your work around forums worldwide from now on

Some look like spy shots, some like renderings, but do they all look fake? It’s time to forget this was all a competition and select a winner from the point of view of the average rumour freaks we are. Thank you every one who submitted an entry and congratulations to the finalists, the W600 is waiting for one of you! The poll (after the link below) will be open until the 24th of December 23:59h Central European Time. Good luck!

As an excuse to give you the oportunity to win a Sony Ericsson W600 (donated by the kind people at Sony Ericsson USA) and well, to celebrate the third year of this website of ours since the first headline reading “P800 ready for mass production”, we’re asking you all to use your Photoshop, drawing, 3D modelling or pottery skills to create that spy photo, that future phone we’re all expecting. The W600 would be your favourite Christmas present, so we’re setting the deadline on December 18th at 23:59 Central European Time to then give everyone the opportunity to vote the best five for one week. Send your entries to lgcc clubsonyericsson com with the subject “UCSE Fake Design Competition“, a brief description of its features and suggested model name (i.e. P200 ). Blurry low resolution images for enhanced credibility, as well as sense of humour, are welcome Checking the Rumours section is totally recommended for inspiration too. The standards have been really high since that T330, but if you think you don’t have design skills, try something just original and with sense of humour! YOU could win!

Among the UCSE sections that need to be heavily updated, the Resources section was quite urgent. Having dozens of free resource sites already (or our Resource Forum), I decided to feature a really large database of ringtones, themes, wallpapers, screensavers and games… but in a pay-per-download form. I know non-free stuff isn’t cool, but I’m talking about a huge selection of goodies (including both polyphonic and HiFi ringtones), sorted in a variety of categories, from which you will very probably find that exact thing you’ve been looking for, check it out. And still, you can always try the free sites featured in the same page! (tip me if i forgot any).

Remember the chorus of the song “It’s raining again” by Supertramp? That’s what I sing when something is fixed in the site: It’s wooorking again… oh nooo something eeeelse’s breaking soon…. Some of you have emailed me pointing out that you never received the confirmation email of the subscription form at the left (thank you). Apparently nobody received it during the most part of June and until today. What can I say, subscribe again?

Almost two weeks! It felt surreal to find the mysql server crashed and the forum and news databases gone just one hour before my flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina, the offline country, where I had to stay 10 days before coming back to Madrid to begin the trial-and-error fixing process. I apologize for the inconvenience; I especially feel sorry for all forum adicts: what have you been doing these days? Tell us in the forum

As you may have noticed, many things have changed in this Club Sony Ericsson news page. If there is one reason why I hardly published anything in the last months, that wouldn’t be because there wasn’t something to talk about (there always is), but because the publishing method was uncomfortable as hell. Even if it did look good, it was pure plain HTML beneath. Crappy botch. From now on this “frontpage” works as a blog, providing both comfort for us publishers, and flexibility of reading for you SE fans. In this way, you have RSS feeds (in versions 1.0 and 2.0) you can read with readers for any platform (Windows, Mac, Pocket PCs, mobile phones…). You can also subscribe through the form located in the column in the right in order to receive a notification email every time a news is published. RSS syndication offers a variety of uses —you can for example add to My Yahoo! and similar services— so there’s no excuse to make Club Sony Ericsson the best news site about Sony Ericsson anymore Good luck to us.

Here’s the dedicated page for the J200, with all the official photos and some live pics from my friends at ThreeGMobile.net. It’s now certain that the J200 is exactly a candybar version of the Z200, only with 400kb of less memory (possibly due to chineese writing embedded). I’ve also added the T290 to the T230 page. Did you know that the T2xx “clones” represents Sony Ericsson’s broadest use of the same design for different GSM bands and markets?:
T226: GSM Dualband 850/1900 for Americas
T230: GSM Dualband 900/1800 for Europe/Middle East/Africa
T237: GSM Dualband 850/1900 for Americas
T238: GSM Dualband 900/1800 for China
T290i: GSM Dualband 900/1800 for Europe/Middle East/Africa
T290a: GSM Dualband 850/1900 for Americas
T290c: GSM Dualband 900/1800 for China

Some nice viruses have delayed the publication of the UCSE product page of the new temporal Vodafone exclusive V800, but here it is with a bunch of photos, specification table (with some unconfirmed facts) and a some links to the official pages:

I just finished upgrading the forum to the next generation forum software; Simple Machines 1.0, based on the traditional YabbSE technology (SMF can be considered a sort of YabbSE 2.0). It improves all the original features and adds dozens more, making your reading and posting experience more enjoyable and handy. At first sight it looks exactly the same as the old one. Well, it does look the same, but the new features are here and there, and you will be discovering them as you use the forum. My favourite new features are that it now distinguishes the topics by highlighting the icon of the ones YOU have posted in (i might revise that yellow highlight and make it more visible), and a handy QuickReply box at the bottom of each topic that lets you reply without having to load the Post Reply page, BUT the definitive killer feature is that you can already browse the forum from any WAP enabled phone!. These are the URLs you have to enter, depending on your phone:
http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/forum/index.php?wap
for WAP 1.0 phones
http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/forum/index.php?wap2
for WAP 2.0 phones. Most Sony Ericssons
http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/forum/index.php?imode
for i-mode/cHTML phones. P910/P900/P800 for example
