Sony Ericsson Z300As advertised in its official product page and this photo, the Z300 retail package will come with diamond-looking stickers for you your girlfriend to decorate the faceplate. This and the lack of the single-icon menu interface seen in the also just unveiled J220 and J230 altogether feels like not sleeping for 24 hours. But I won’t object. It doesn’t even have integrated handsfree speaker like the mentioned J phones, but keeps the rest of “standard” features at 85.5 x 45 x 23 mm and 91 grams: GSM Dual, GPRS 4+1, 128×128 pixel 65k color STN screen, 64×64 pixel monochrome external screen, 650kb internal memory (150kb more than the others), 32-tone polyphonics, theme support and exchangeable faceplates (Granite Grey and Amethyst Purple). Mobile-review already has a review of the Z300 and seem very angry about the lack of innovation and other details like the claimed 65k color screen looking as unimpressive and unusuable under sunlight as the J300‘s 4k color. They complain about the use of the old connector instead of the Fast Port, about the volume buttons, and the existance of the phone itself coming to demolish the company’s image. But us, in SE we trust. This cute clamshell will be in stores before Christmas in Z300i, Z300c and Z300a versions for EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa), China mainland and America respectively.

Blurry Hermione/P950 spy shots

Posted by Luis Camino on Oct 1, 2005 in General|P990|Rumours|Spy photos

Hermione/P950/P1000These photos don’t make us as happy as the crisp, high quality Sakura photos we’re getting used to, but Newsmobile.it has published some interesting bits of information along with them. First thing, say good bye to Jog-Dial. There’s some kind of icon wheel in the upper left part of the screen that made me hope the Jog-Dial was still somewhere, but the article confirms it’s gone due to the minimum size achieved for the handset. A feature of the UIQ 3.0 interface of the Symbian 9.1 OS it’s running is the support for .PNG files and its 256 levels of transparency. You may be surprised to know that the latest interface update in Sony Ericssons, the one used in K750i, W800, W550, Z520, etc., also supports PNG’s in the themes, but very few theme artists are playing with them. What they don’t support but the “P950″ will is the support for True Type Font customization for the interface. Sweeet. [Newsmobile.it via Se-Nse.net]
See the pictures and discuss this in the Hermione/P950/P1000 forum thread

UPDATE: I thought I could read Italian but a Google translation proved I was wrong about the Jog-Dial. It DOES have one, but it’s just a three-way wheel compared to the five-way Jog-Dials of P800/P900/P910. Still much better than nothing! Other details in the article mention the D-pad being 9-way and the interface skins having more customization options than a made-to-measure Rolls-Royce. [Thanks LAU for the correction]

New site focusing on Japaneese Sony Ericssons

Posted by Luis Camino on May 25, 2005 in General|Japaneese

NewGmobile.com Part due to lack of time, part due to general lazyness, the product section of Clubsonyericsson.com is limited to the European range of Sony Ericsson phones and accesories, and altough we normally try to inform you about any important SE news concerning what happens in that Japan planet, there really wasn’t a good source of information of phones from there aimed at western fans… until now. Still in beta phase, the recently born NewGmobile.com may be the contestant to win that place in the Internet. Let’s keep an eye on it.

The original W800 packaging

Posted by Luis Camino on Mar 16, 2005 in General|W800

W800 packagingThis is the W800 packaging I mentioned in its preview, with which Sony Ericsson pretends to make people “buy on an impulse”. From the positive impressions of the guys at Engadget, I gues they’ll make it.

Mobile-review at CeBit 2005Their russian-to-english team of translators seems to be getting worse and worse, but from Mobile-review’s live report from the Sony Ericsson CeBit booth we can infer that SE is already is working on prototypes of future phones with S700-like form factors and â€â€finally double stereo speakers. Eldar tells how they were lucky enough to see one someone of the staff with a mysterious phone with integrated camera and loop antena, and mentions two codenames: “Ellen” and “Sakura”.

Some live photos of the T290

Posted by Luis Camino on Dec 22, 2004 in General|Photos|T290

Journal Financial Times and consultant PricewaterhouseCoopers have made a global ranking of the most admired companies worldwide. In this section Sony Ericsson is considered the 21st, ahead of all the other mobile phone manufacturers. Equally exciting is the 2nd position it has among the most innovative companies in the world, only behind Microsoft. “It is really motivating to have been part, since the beginning, in such an attractive proyect like Sony Ericsson’s, with such great results in such a short term. There is no doubt that the passion, one of the values of the Sony Ericsson culture, is the base for the performance of this team and its hopeful future” said Raúl Ortiz, managing director of Sony Ericsson Spain.

Sony Ericsson USA testing labs tour

Posted by Luis Camino on Nov 22, 2004 in General|T290

Lucky Mobileburn folks got the chance to visit the testing labs of Sony Ericsson in the USA. That is where pre-production phones are subjected to all kinds of tests and tortures in order to ensure their reliability in real life. Don’t be intrigued by the misterious phone in one of the photos, it’s just a T290 photographed before its official announcement.
